D. Making Line Graphs with Means with Standard Errors, Standard Deviations, Confidence Intervals, etc.

1. enter the data into the spreadsheet as columns where column no. 1 has the X-axis values, column no. 2 has the means for each X-axis value, and column no. 3 has the 95% confidence intervals (or whatever measure of variance you are trying to plot on this graph).
2. invoke ChartWizard as above and highlight the portion of the data containing the X-axis values and the means (columns 1 and 2 in our example) so that the addresses of those cells appear in the RANGE box. Do NOT highlight the cells containing the 95% confidence intervals. Hit NEXT.
3. under Chart Type select LINE and then hit NEXT.
4. under Format select no. 1 and then hit NEXT.
5. answer the category X-axis (in our example the answer is 1) and Legend Text questions. Hit NEXT.
6. do the axis labels, titles, etc. as described above. Hit FINISH.
7. double click on the graph to edit it.
8. double click on one of the lines on the graph. (In our example there is only one.)
9. click on Y ERROR BARS on the top of the Format Data Series Box.
10. click on Both under Display.
11. turn on Custom.
12. fill in the + and - boxes with the error bar information by highlighting the column with the 95% confidence intervals. Click on OK.
13. adjust the axis style, fonts, etc. as described above in B.
